Cleopatra reportably bathed in milk. These decadent bath bombs are guaranteed to make you feel as special as this ancient queen.
So you have successfully made your first bath of Bath Bombs, and your second, and finally, your third. But now you want to try something a little different? Why not give these bath bombs a go? They are filled with all-natural goodness and the smell is heaven-sent.
Honey is a humectant. This means that it attracts moisture from the air around it. So as you are lying in your honey and oatmeal bath, the honey is actually drawing the water to you, thereby rehydrating your skin.
Oatmeal has been used through the ages to sooth skin. Especially skin that is dry and itchy. Many people will remember oatmeal from their childhood when it was used to soothe the itch associated with chicken pox.
Milk was supposably used by Cleopatra as she bathed. It has been reported as a skin softener. You can use cow’s milk, but traditionally goat’s milk was the milk of choice.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Bicarbonate of Soda (baking soda)
- 1/2 cup Citric Acid (lemon juice)
- 1/4 Instant Oats
- 1 tablespoon Milk Powder
- 1/2 tablespoon Honey
- 2-3 tablespoons Olive Oil
- 15 drops Vanilla Essence
Method
- Mix all the dry ingredients together.
- Add the olive oil a tablespoon at a time. Sometimes these bath bombs will need only a little oil; sometimes more is required. If you are making these on a damp or humid day, less oil will be required. If they are being made on a day hot enough to toast bread, then a lot more oil will be needed. This is because the moisture will get sucked right out of your mixture and into the atmosphere.
- Now that all the dry ingredients are coated in oil, add you vanilla essence. Adding your essence now will create less fizzing. Any moisture that comes in contact with the bicarbonate of soda and citric acid with create a chemical reaction. This will cause your bath bombs to foam and fizz before their time, in effect ruining your product.
- Grease a mini muffin tin. This will be used as your bath bomb mould.
- Spoon mixture into the muffin tin and squash it down quite firmly. Continue in this manner until all the mixture has been used. You should make roughly 10 bath bombs per batch.
- Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes and then lay a sheet of baking paper over the top. Lay a board on top of this and hold the lot firmly together. Quickly, but carefully, flip the lot over. Gently raise the muffin tin off the bath bombs and allow them to stand in a dry spot until they have set firm and are completely dry (This may take over night).
- Your bath bombs are now ready to be used. Enjoy!
