Vinegar is an effective, anti-bacterial green cleaner and mild whitener. Green cleaning with white, distilled vinegar is a natural, non-toxic alternative to store-bought brands. Read on to learn how to green clean, disinfect and shine with vinegar.
Formulate a scouring cleaner for kitchen and bathroom surfaces by mixing one part vinegar and two parts baking soda. Scrub the surface with this cleaner, leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with plain water.
Get rid of carpet stains with diluted vinegar. Pour equal parts vinegar and water into a spray bottle, and spray this directly onto the stain. Allow this to sit for 15 to 20 minutes, and then blot the stain away with a sponge and warm, soapy water.
Disinfect kitchen and bathroom countertops by spraying them with vinegar then wiping them down. Similarly, wipe down the interior of a refrigerator with undiluted vinegar to cleanse and deodorize. Vinegar has a relatively high acidic content that most bacteria cannot survive, yet it is safe to use around food.
Clean up mold and mildew with a solution of equal parts water and vinegar. Spray the solution onto the affected area and wipe it down.

Make a hard wood floor cleaner from vinegar. Pour one gallon of warm water into a bucket and then add 1/4 cup vinegar and 1/4 cup castile soap. Mop hard wood floors with the soapy solution and then rinse thoroughly with plain water.
Run undiluted vinegar through your coffee maker to get rid of lime hard-water scale buildup from the inner mechanism of a coffeemaker. Fill the reservoir with the vinegar and allow the coffee maker to run through a half brew cycle. Turn it off and allow to sit for 10 to 15 minutes. Turn the coffee maker back on and allow it to complete its brew cycle. Now, run two or three brew cycles using plain, clean water.
Regularly clean drains by pouring 1/2 cup baking soda down the drain followed by 1/2 cup vinegar. After about 5 minutes, rinse with hot water.
